This story is non-numismatic, but it does remind us of money artist J.S.G. Boggs, who spent his hand-drawn versions of banknotes to buy art supplies, meals, and pay the lawyers who worked to keep him out of jail. The scheme these two artists came up with is equally inventive, and somewhat less likely to draw the ire of U.S. Treasury officials. -Editor
For about a year, New York City artists Justin Gignac and Christine Santora make paintings of things that they want and price them at exactly what it would cost to buy that item. Once they sell the painting, and buy the item, they take a photo of the item or experience and post it in their Flickr stream beside the painting. Top, plane trip from New York City. I looked through the artists' Flicker steam, and lo and behold, one of the artworks depicts a stylized piece of U.S. paper money. I wonder what the Secret Service thinks of this? Probably nothing, but one never knows what the G-men will decide to prosecute. -Editor
