John Marshall
Biography
Born in a log cabin in the wilderness near Germantown, Virginia. He attended the College of William and Mary. Married Mary Willis Ambler January 3, 1783. They had ten children. Admitted to the bar in 1781. He was a member of the Masons in Richmond, Virginia.
Elected to Congress and served March 4, 1799, to June 7, 1800. Appointed Secretary of State June 6, 1800. Served as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court 1801 to 1835. Author of The Life of George Washington. He died in Philadelphia.
