Mark Newbie [Newby]
Biography
Born in Northumberland. As a Quaker he found religious persecution in England and moved to Dublin, Ireland. Additional persecution in Ireland caused him to move to America in November 1681. Married to Hannah with two sons and two daughters.
He imported copper coins used in New Jersey known as St. Patrick Halfpence and Farthings. Member of the General Assembly of the province of West Jersey. In May 1682 the colonial legislature granted a charter making the St. Patrick coinage legal tender.
