Rosa Louise McCauley Parks

Biography

Born in Tuskeegee, Alabama. Married Raymond Parks in 1932.

On December 1, 1955, she refused to give up her seat on a bus. Police were called and she was arrested. Protests led to the Montgomery bus boycott led by Dr. Martin Luther King.

Honored with Congressional gold medal designed by Artis Lane (obv) and reverse designer Al Maletsky and reverse engraver John Mercanti.
