Frederick B. Taylor
Biography
Born in Boston. Graduate of Williams College in 1927. Employed with White, Weld & Co. Later vice president of C. H. Sprague & Son. He died in Waltham, Massachusetts.
His collection was sold at auction by Bowers and Merena March 26-28, 1987. It included the finest collection of Vermont Coppers ever sold at auction. Other series of state coinage were also significant. An IMMUNIS COLUMBIA Standing Eagle copper, one of two known, realized $33,000. There were 306 varieties of Connecticut coppers and 446 lots. A 1787 M1.2mm believed to be finest of 4 to 6 known realized $4400. The New Jersey coppers included 99 varieties and 138 lots. A 1786 M-23.R described as mint red MS 63 realized $17,600. Of the 42 lots of Vermont coppers, an R-15 in VF 20 realized $7700 and an R-32, one of three known, realized $7975.
