Received bachelor's degree from University of Tennessee in 1959, doctorate in chemistry from University of California, Berkeley, in 1963. Taught chemistry at North Carolina State University at Raleigh, NC from 1964 until retirement in 2001. Married to Anne.
Specialist in the coinage of England.
ANA exhibitor, exhibit judge and chair of the Exhibits and Award committee. He was named a Numismatic News Numismatic Ambassador in 1994. He received the ANA Glenn Smedley Memorial Award in 2014.
