Fred (Malcolm) Waring

Biography

Born in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. Married Evelyn Hair in 1933. They had three children. Married Virginia Gearhart in 1954. They had two children. Invented the Waring Blender in 1937. 

He conducted his group Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. Produced "The Fred Waring Show" on television 1949 to 1954. He was known as the "Father of American Chorale Music." He suffered a stroke at home in State College, Pennsylvania, and died in a Danville, Pennsylvania, hospital. 

Received Congressional Gold Medal from President Reagan December 15, 1983. Obverse design was by John Mercanti. Reverse was by Michael Iacocca. Bronze copies of the 38 mm medal (USM 675) were sold to the public.
