Lewis Warrington
Biography
Born in Williamsburg, Virginia. Attended College of William and Mary. Married Margaret Cary King March 3, 1817.
Entered navy as a midshipman in 1800. Promoted to lieutenant in 1805. In 1813 he was Master Commandant with the sloop-of-war Peacock. They engaged the British sloop Epervier April 29, 1814. Chief of the bureau of ordinance and hydrology September 1842 until his death. He died in Washington, D.C.
Congress honored Warrington with a gold medal by resolution October 21, 1814, for the capture of the Epervier. The medal (Julian NA-23) was by Moritz Furst. A modern copy (USM 516) was produced by the mint.
