Born in Littleborough, Lancashire. Attended University of Brunswick in Canada. Married to Prudence with a son and a daughter. Reporter at The Sunday Times. Later editor of Business Magazine. 

Author of The Great Silver Bubble (1982). Author of Portrait of an Old Lady: Turmoil at the Bank of England (1987).
