Stephen Miles Carr


Born in Dayton, Ohio. Received B.A. from Hanover College (1974), B.S. from University of Wyoming (1987), M.A. from Purdue University (1977). Married to Katherine Thurston with a daughter and two sons. Father of coin dealer Jim Carr.

Professor of Automotive Technology at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, for more than thirty years (1987-2017), retired.

ANA Summer Seminar instructor on early American copper coinage (1999-2018). Numismatic News columnist on U.S. large cents. Presented counterfeit detection class at EAC seminars for 25 years (1996-2017). He received an honorary Doctorate degree in Numismatics in 2015 and received an ANA Presidential Award in 2020.

He died at home in Overland Park, Kansas.
