John Work Garrett
Biography
Born in Baltimore; son of T. Harrison Garrett. Graduate with B.S. from Princeton in 1895. Married Alice Warder December 24, 1908.
Served in the diplomatic service. He was secretary of the legation at The Hague; secretary to the embassy at Berlin; minister to Venezuela; minister to Argentina; minister to The Hague; and ambassador to Rome. He resigned from the diplomatic service in 1933.
He was a member of the ANA. He donated the coin collection to Johns Hopkins University. The collection was de-accessed and sold at auction by Bowers and Ruddy in a series of four landmark sales 1979 to 1981.
