George Gershwin
Biography
Born as Jacob Gershvin in Brooklyn, New York; younger brother of Ira. Unmarried. Began work for a musical publisher at age 15. He wrote more than 1000 compositions. In 1919 he wrote his first hit, "Swanee." Composer of "Rhapsody in Blue," 1923; "An American in Paris," 1928; and many others.
He died in Hollywood, California.
