George and Ira Gershwin
Biography
The brothers collaborated on many works with George composing the music and Ira writing the lyrics. "Of Thee I Sing" won a Pulitzer Prize in 1931. Other works include "Porgy and Bess" in 1935.
They were honored by Congress with gold medals in 1988. The medal was designed by Chester Y. Martin. The mint sells copies in bronze in 3" diameter (USM 689) and 1.5 " diameter (USM 690).
