Catalogue of the Late Mr. John Allan, of Choice, Scarce, Curious, and Unique Books

Auction Summary

Attinelli (1875) notes "This catalogue, which consisted largely of books and curiosities of various kinds, was issued in various portions, separately, as well as that described above; some copies with an addenda bound in; an addenda of "Missals" separate, another sheet, addenda, of “Autographs.” A supplement was published subsequent to the sale by Mr. Wm. Gowans, giving prices and names of purchasers. That portion of the catalogue, which comprised the coins, viz., lots 4150-4558, pages 297 to 312, was also issued separately, or detached from the remaining portions. The date, May 2d, is on a slip, pasted over the date of April 25. Mr. Allan was so noted an antiquarian as to require no further me."

Attinelli further notes the entire sale occurred over 12 days in 5,278 lots, with 344 total pages of cataloged material.

This copy, from the David Hirt library, describes 3,321 lots, and is priced and named in black ink. About 80 of these lots represent numismatic literature.
