The excerpt concerns the early life and adventures of William Phips, who led an expedition to recover the treasure of the Concepcion, also known as the Silver Shoals Shipwreck. The salvage of the shipwreck led to an influx of silver to the Royal Mint. An important American medal, catalogued as Betts-67 resulted from the salvage and the celebration thereof. The reverse of the medal has a depiction of the salvage.
