A description of the medals of Washington
Snowden, James Ross (1861)
Davis 951. 21 engravings, medal ruled. This work enumerates Washington medals, United States military medals, presidential medals, personal medals, and “miscellaneous” medals in the Mint Cabinet. Snowden wrote “This work, in conjunction with the Mint Manual of Coins, recently published, completes the description of the objects of interest and curiosity collected and exhibited in the Museum or Cabinet of the Mint of the United States.” The “Mint Manual” referred to Snowden’s companion volume of 1860, titled A Description of Ancient and Modern Coins in the Cabinet Collection at the Mint of the United States. A medal, Julian MT-23, was issued in conjunction with the inauguration of the Washington Cabinet of Medals, which took place February 22, 1860.
