In the course of researching his new book on the Draped Bust / Small Eagle Dollars, Harry Salyards discovered that both the replacement of the reverse design with the Heraldic Eagle was heavily influenced by contemporary politics, specifically the politics of a pair of Federalist Mint Directors.
