The Ingle System Co. of Dayton, Ohio was the first such firm to produce a system of copyrighted tokens using a standardized format and even a specialized dispenser. While in operation only from around 1908 to 1919, Ingle System scrip became very popular, especially in the lumber and coal mining industries, setting the stage for a revolution in company store scrip that lasted for decades.
