Veteran of the Civil War and member of the GAR. He claimed participation in the capture of Booth conspirator George Atzerodt, since he transcribed the prisoner’s interrogation. He received a gunshot wound in the leg. Married to Lillian M. with children
Employed in the printing business. Editor of the Norristown Independent after June 14, 1866.
Employee of the United States Mint. Author of The United States Mint in 1870.
On the evening of June 10, 1895, Runkel confronted A. Loudon Snowden and struck him with a cane. He was sentenced to three months in county prison.
During 1890-1915. He lived in a home for disabled veterans. He died at Kearny, New Jersey.
