Wismer, David
Resident of Hatfield, Pennsylvania. Married Annie Roberts September 18, 1878. They had five children. Employed as an engineer and mechanic. He retired in 1929.
The free silver movement of 1895-1896 arroused an interest in the study of money. He became a student and later expert on paper money. He wrote a series of articles on obsolete paper for The Numismatist from 1922 to 1936. Some were reprinted as The Obsolete Bank Notes of New England in 1972. He also wrote for The Coin Collector's Journal and Hobbies magazine. He was ANA member number 127. He died in Hatfield, Pennsylvania. In 1969 he was elected to the ANA Numismatic Hall of Fame. In 2020 he was inducted into the SPMC Hall of Fame.
