Ruschenberger, William
Born in Cumberland County, New Jersey.
He entered the Navy August 10, 1826, as a surgeon's mate. Graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 1830. Commissioned a surgeon April 4. 1831. He sailed with Edmund Roberts to Muscat and Siam in 1836. Roberts delivered an 1804 dollar to the King of Siam.

Author of A Voyage Round the World, detailing the mission of Edmund Roberts to the east, 1835-1837. Roberts famously transmitted an 1804 dollar to the King of Siam as a diplomatic gift; this coin resurfaced in the early 1960s to the amazement of all.

An account of Edmund Roberts' diplomatic mission to the east, 1835-1837. Numismatically significant for the discussion of coins presented to the King of Siam and Sultan of Muscat (see pp. 91, 343-344). Although not specifically stated here, 1804 dollars were presented to each.
