Received B.A. from Muhlenberg College in 1934; M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1935 and Ph.D. from New York University in 1947. Married to Helen Bausher. Professor of economics at New York University 1947 to 1975. 
He endowed the Herman E. Krooss Prize for Best Dissertation in Business History.
Author of Documentary History of Banking & Currency in the United States in 2 volumes.
