Mackay, James
Born in Inverness, Scotland. Attended Glasgow University. Married to Renate. He wrote 200 books on stamps and postmarks. Employed as assistant keeper at the British Museum. He was convicted of theft and dismissed in 1972. Later he was accused of plagiarism in two biographies.
Author of A History of Modern English Coinage Henry VII to Elizabeth II (1984). Author of The World Encyclopedia of Coins & Coin Collecting (2010) with a long extended title.
