(4), 239–268, (2) pages; 11 halftone plates. Opening leaves with some chipping; very good or better. One of the first descriptions published of this important find, with 11 plates illustrating the medallions. These were extremely controversial at the time of their discovery, with much debate regarding their authenticity. A Note from the Collector: To this collector’s knowledge this is not only an extremely rare publication but also of the highest importance, being the earliest description of these medallions, very soon after their discovery. This means that, if at some later time copies were made, the photographs in this publication are certainly of the genuine articles.
