Born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Received B.A. from University of Cincinnati in 1994, M.A. from Ohio State University in 1996 and Ph.D from Ohio State in 2003. Married with a son.
His collecting interests include North American colonial coins, tokens and medals, and medieval Islamic coinage.
Member of the ANA, ANS (fellow), IAPN, NLG, NBS (board member). Partner in Kolbe and Fanning Numismatic Booksellers. Member of the Rittenhouse Society.
