Jacobsthaler

The name given to cer- tain silver coins struck in 1633 and 1634 by Duke Frederick Ulrich of Brunswick Wolfenbuttel from metal obtained from the St. Jakob mine at Lautenthal. They bear a figure of Jacob, the patron saint, in pilgrim's costume, and a view of the town of Lautenthal. The pieces were struck not only as simple Thaler, but also as doubles and sextuples.
