Wen
The modern Chinese word for " Cash " (q.v.). This word is found on many of the modern struck copper coins. It, however, has been used as a value on paper money since the ninth century, and some of the coins of Hsien Peng (1850- 1862) have the word Wen on them. The Cantonese pronunciation is Mun, as is also the Korean. The Annamese word is Van. See Ch'ien.
