Negative Carving
Negative Carving. Modeling intaglio; cutting a die or relief in the negative, all relief is sunken and mirror image. Such relief becomes positive when the die is struck or the bas- relief is cast. The time-honored way of preparing dies –hand engraving each one – was negative carving. See relief.
