Oblique Border

Oblique Border.  A rim that is not flat but slants up or down from the edge. Also called oblique rim border (or oblique band for a wider rim). The intent for designing such a border is the same as any border – to reduce wear on a circulating coin. The United States Peace dollar (1921-35) has an oblique border (style A). A characteristic style of medals struck at the Lombardo Mint of Canada has style B.
