Description | [back] The Cutting Room, U.S. Mint, Philadelphia. After the strips of metal had been rolled and were of proper thickness, they were cut into shorter strips for ease of handling. These short strips were then fed into cutting presses which punched out the blanks or planchets on which the coin was to be stamped. |
