Description [back] STEAM-POWERED COINING PRESS United States Mint, Philadelphia From 1836 until 1874, a coining press such as this was in use stamping our Nation's coinage with a relief design. Seventy-five to 200 coins per minute were coined from this press. In 1874 a modified coining press was constructed resulting in coins of better relief and increased life of the coining dies.
