Description

Civil War patriotic cover with the text "All we want is to be let alone".

Pete Smith commentary: "All we want is to be let alone" is a quote from the inaugural address of Jefferson Davis to the Confederate Congress in 1861. The cover shows a bulldog with collar reading "Scott" chasing rats out of the U. S. Mint. This represented Winfield Scott. The lead rat represented John B. Floyd, who was Governor of Virginia and forced to resign for diverting U. S. funds to private contractors.
