1840 H10C Drapery MS65+ S NGC. CAC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1840 Seated Liberty half dime is the first date with drapery showing at Liberty's elbow, making it an important type coin. This subtype is seen less often than the No Drapery variant. Mint State pieces in particular are difficult to locate, especially in the better grades. This is the only NGC-certified 1840 With Drapery half dime awarded both a Plus designation and the coveted Star. Moreover, it carries the CAC seal. Gorgeous rainbow toning at the borders frames brilliant or near-brilliant centers and the strike is solid overall. As might be expected, there are no marks of note on either side. The successful bidder will cherish this piece. Census: 10 in 65 (1 in 65+ S), 4 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $3.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
