1873 H10C PR68 S NGC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Concentric patina over pristine surfaces is the hallmark of this piece, exhibiting ice-blue in the obverse center and gold on the reverse center, radiating outward to deeper amber-gold and copper-russet hues. The fields are brightly mirrored and shine easily through the toning. The strike is sharp overall, save for a small area on the upper-left (facing) wreath, and the surface preservation is simply extraordinary. A great-looking example of this last-year half dime proof issue, struck only with the Closed 3-style date to the extent of 600 pieces. This piece is the sole finest at either NGC or PCGS (10/13), the only PR68 1873 half dime. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $3.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
