1860-S 10C AU50 NGC. CAC. The design of the Seated Liberty dime was changed in 1860, replacing the obverse stars with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and moving the mintmark outside the wreath. The 1860-S was the last issue to feature the old design, and is accordingly prized by type collectors. Only 140,000 pieces were struck and survivors are rare, with NGC having handled only 37 examples in all grades combined (9/13). This lightly circulated piece exhibits wear on the high points, but retains a pleasing level of design detail. Attractive toning in hues of gold, tan, and olive-green adds to the appeal of this example. Census: 2 in 50, 19 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
