1824/2 25C AU55 NGC. CAC. B-1, R.3. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Mint records for cents, dimes, and quarters were confusing during the period from 1823 to 1825. For quarter dollars, the estimated mintages are 1,800 in 1823, 16,000 in 1824, and 168,000 in 1825. Five die marriages were produced during those three years, and the average mintage per die marriage was 37,160 coins, similar to the average mintage per die pair for most other years in the series. There is only one known die marriage for 1824-dated quarters, and about 400 survivors are known today. Among those are three confirmed Mint State pieces and a dozen AU pieces, including the Eric P. Newman specimen. Lovely silver-gray patina graces the obverse and reverse surfaces of this Choice AU piece, with a halo of green, gold, and blue toning around Liberty. The reverse is similar with additional reddish-gold at the center. Census: 4 in 55, 7 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $20.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
