1831 25C Small Letters MS64+ NGC. B-1, R.3. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Browning-1 was struck both before and after B-2. The present near-Gem was struck after B-2, since die rust is evident near the date. The obverse center and most of the reverse is brilliant, but the obverse margin exhibits deep navy-blue and plum-red toning. The boldly struck and coruscating surfaces are smooth aside from a couple of hair-thin marks on the right obverse field. The Newman specimen is tied for third finest known of the 1831 B-1 quarters. This is the Browning plate coin for the variety. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $2.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
