1909 25C PR68 S NGC. CAC. The uniformity in appearance and preservation of the proof Barber quarters in the Eric P. Newman collection is nothing short of extraordinary. They were all obviously stored in the same environment, yielding similar concentric rings of magnificent colors. But that occurred over the decades after he selected each coin for perfect preservation, a prescient decision he made many years before such a huge premium was placed on high-grade type coins. This proof with its Star designation is tied for the finest 1909 certified at both services, and displays rose, sky-blue, and yellow rings of patina on each side. Census: 14 in 68 (2 in 68 S), 0 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
