1796 10C MS63 NGC. CAC. JR-1, R.1. This example is a later die state than usual for the 1796 JR-1 dimes. The rim break at star 1 covers two star points as usual, and the reverse border details are incomplete opposite the rim break. This piece has heavy clash marks in the obverse fields, and the reverse cracks and clash marks are slightly more advanced on this piece than on the other 1796 JR-1 dime offered here. Both sides have splendid pale gold toning on the devices, with deep steel toning in the fields. Census: 25 in 63 (1 in 63+), 39 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
