1835 25C MS67 S NGC. B-2, R.2. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The Mint struck nearly 2 million quarters in 1835, a total that was the highest mintage by far for Bust quarters of any year. Five obverse and six reverse dies were used to create eight die marriages known for the year. The 1835 B-1 obverse die was used for the B-1, B-2, and B-3 marriages. The 8 in the date is low and the 3 is high, so the B-2 is known as the "Uneven Date." Star 6 and the 3 in the date are recut, and the 5 in the date is completely under the curl. On the reverse, the eagle has no tongue, and the C in 25C is slightly higher than the 25. The base of the second T in STATES is slightly higher than the bases of the A and E. The arrow feather is over the right half of the 2, and the olive stem over the right half of the C. The arrowheads are small and somewhat distant from the rim. This coin was struck from Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint Die State a: A faint obverse die crack passes from the rim under the 8 through the base of the 5 to the rim near star 13. The reverse die crack goes from STA to the eagle's right wing and through RIC. The obverse shows a silver center framed with rings of amber-gold, aqua, jade, violet, and russet nearest the rims. The reverse is also silver in the centers, with russet-gold and cobalt-blue peripheral accents. As expected from the grade and Star designation, the eye appeal is simply off the charts.
