1806 50C Pointed 6, No Stem MS62 NGC. O-109, R.1. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The coin offered here is well-detailed, with just a touch of flatness on some obverse stars. Some interesting clash marks are visible on both sides, especially on the upper-right reverse. With glorious album toning, the centers are mostly brilliant silver on both sides, yielding to deep lavender and golden-brown at the borders. Vibrant mint luster adds to the terrific eye appeal. Slide marks across the portrait are of little concern but may explain why the coin did not grade a point or two higher. The 1806 Draped Bust half dollar claims the largest mintage of the series at 839,576 pieces. Thirteen different obverse dies were combined with 21 separate reverses to produce 30 known die varieties for the date, three of which were recently discovered. The present coin represents the popular Pointed 6, Stem Not Through Claw Guide Book variety, O-109 and thought by many to be the most common die pair of the year in all grades. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R.
