1806 50C Pointed 6, Stem MS64 NGC. CAC. O-119, R.3. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. This is a spectacularly Choice example, with vibrant mint luster and sharply impressed design elements in most areas. As Overton notes, all examples of this variety show incomplete detail around Liberty's hair ribbon and the corresponding area on the reverse. Overton attributes this to die sinking. The well-preserved surfaces display mostly brilliant centers, with vivid shades of violet and sea-green at the rims. This coin will be a welcome addition to an advanced collection of die varieties. The O-119 variety is somewhat scarce in lower grades and very rare at the MS64 level. From Stephen Herrman's survey of auction appearances, this coin is tied with two other specimens for third place in the Condition Census for the variety. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
