1808/7 50C MS65 NGC. O-101, R.1. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Here is a nice companion for the two preceding 1807 half-dollars, in both look and state of preservation. The strike is exquisite, especially for the date, leaving nothing to the viewer's imagination. The radiant mint luster is equally impressive. A network of clash marks and die cracks is present, contributing to the charm of this early half dollar. Luminous silver centers are framed by shades of lavender at the rims, with a few highlights of golden-brown. Yes, album toning! This lot represents an important opportunity for advanced collectors of the series. Our research suggests that the Newman 1808/7 is one of three Gem examples that aspire to the top spot in the Condition Census. Census: 4 in 65, 0 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
