Description 1887 50C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The rich amber-gold rim toning, with blue peeking out from the extreme edges, enhances the contrast against the silver-white centers and thickly frosted devices on each side. The fields are profoundly mirrored throughout, creating impeccable contrast that is well within the Ultra Cameo designation. The proof strike is full throughout, a stark contrast to many examples currently in the marketplace. Note the full details on the star centers, Liberty's head and sandal, and the eagle feathers and claws. This piece is among the finest late-series proof Seated halves in the Newman Collection, a coin with great eye appeal and excellent preservation. It is also the finest certified Ultra Cameo of the issue at NGC (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $12.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $29,375.00 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.
