1892-S $1 AU58 NGC. The 1892-S Morgan dollar is a great rarity in Mint State and even in accurately graded near-Mint State, as here. Lower-grade examples of the issue are quite common and apt to grade VF or XF at best; an AU example is a prize for most collectors. This near-Mint State coin shows just a touch of wear on the hair over the ear, Liberty's brow, and a couple of the highest hair curls over the forehead. Similarly, the reverse shows rub on the central eagle's breast and the top wing edges. The silver, pinkish-gray, and greenish-gold patina adds a hint of blue-gray on the reverse, an appearance that is without doubt the product of decades of untroubled preservation. A small, straight mark appears on one of the lower curls. NGC has seen only 47 non-Prooflike submissions finer, a total almost certainly fraught with duplications (10/13). Ex: Eric P.
