Description 1828 50C Curl Base 2, Knob MS63 NGC. O-107, R.2. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. A second offering of this coveted Guide Book variety. This R.2 die pair routinely brings a 50% to 100% premium over other "common" die varieties of the year. The 1828 Curl Base, Knob 2 is a Guide Book variety represented by only two of twenty-three die pairs identified by Overton. The other, 1828 O-106, is a high level R.4, rarely encountered in higher grades. The Newman O-107, therefore, is just what the doctor ordered for both Guide Book and die variety collectors. The coin exhibits vibrant mint luster, shining through dappled shades of golden-brown and lavender-gray toning. The luster is deep and undisturbed. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $3,055.00 .
