1842 50C Medium Date, Large Letters MS62 NGC. CAC. WB-106, R.7. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Recut 8 and Errant 8 in the Rock. This condition rarity displays attractive silver-gray toning with light gold highlights on both sides along with deep blue-gray peripheral coloration. There are only a few minor marks in the reverse field above the eagle. The 8 in the date is recut west with doubling evident to the east of the prominent 8. The upper loop of a third 8 shows just right of the shield's point in the hemline of Liberty's gown. The reverse of this half dollar displays interesting and extensive die cracks, typical of this die marriage. Rare in Mint State, and a desirable variety for the specialist. Note that the variety designation is not on the coin's holder. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P.
