1877-CC 50C MS64 NGC. Type One Reverse, WB-102, Die State WB-4, R.4. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. This remarkable 1877-CC has a Type One reverse hub (split lower berry) and a Medium CC mintmark with wide spacing, low in the field. Both dies are identified by die lumps, on the obverse on Liberty's neck area and on the reverse in the field below the letters DOL. This is a late die state of this die pairing with interesting clash marks on the reverse along the top of the scroll and under the right wing. Attractive, deep steel-blue toning with hints of amber and a diagonal streak of die grease (as struck) running through the date. Only minor abrasions in the fields keep it from a Gem grade. An admirable Mint State Carson City half dollar. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $5.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
