1877-S 50C MS66 NGC. CAC. WB-102, Die State WB-10, R.3. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Very Small Mintmark. In the year before the Morgan (or "Bland-Allison") silver dollars made their debut on the numismatic stage, San Francisco produced a generous silver dollar mintage of more than 5.3 million pieces. The following year, San Francisco would make only 12,000 Seated halves (making the 1878-S the key to the series), as the presses would be devoted to striking nearly 10 million Morgan dollars. The 1877-S halves show numerous sizes of mintmarks, the WB-102 being among the Very Small class and showing a lump in the rock next to Liberty's index finger.
