1863 50C PR64 Cameo NGC. CAC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. M.L. Beistle recognized two variants in the proofs from 1863. One has an open 3 in the date, the other closed. This difference might be attributed to die polishing were it not for the differing placement of the date in the exergue. This proof has the date placed centrally, rather than closer to the base. The devices are thickly frosted on each side, and present strong contrast against the deeply reflective fields. Most of each side is brilliant, and the bright interiors are framed by dusky brown and deep blue patina around the rims. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $10.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
